We are in the woods, in Figgiano, a small mountain village at 750 meters above sea level, in the part of the most intact and wild Marche region. We are at the foot of the great mountain range of the Alpe della Luna where the borders of Marche, Tuscany and Umbria intertwine.
The municipality is Borgo Pace, the last of the Metauro valley and the last one of the province of Pesaro-Urbino before the pass of Bocca Trabaria, the pass that leads to S. Giustino (Perugia) and Sansepolcro in the province of Arezzo.
The area is completely covered with forests and the whole economy revolves around this environmental heritage. Survives, which is very rare in Italy, the ancient profession of coalman. The cattle and sheep breeding is still rooted and there are many activities related to timber and the collection of truffles and mushrooms.
We are in the heart of an area that preserves some riches of art famous in the world: Urbino city declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site, is 41 km away, Sansepolcro, great perfectly preserved medieval center, where Piero della Francesca was born, is 73 km away. Arezzo can be reached in about an hour. The small towns of the Metauro valley, a few minutes away, hide unimaginable treasures. Mercatello, Sant'Angelo in Vado and Urbania preserve, in addition to harmonious historical centers, testimonies of Renaissance art and culture of international value.
